Changing my focus

I've decided this blog isn't going to meet my all of creative needs. I have made this about my random thoughts... but I crave structure!! Plus, I want to provide information and present a blog that will help others. So, I'm going to blog about my adventures in parenting! I will still pop in here from time to time when random thoughts just have to be written down.

Friends Always

I love how some people are so special they will always, ALWAYS be in your life. I was very blessed to have one of these very important people stop in for a visit tonight. We met in grade 1 and rode the bus together until grade 12! We went through so much together while in school, and the 8 years since leaving our hometown. 20 years of friendship! She has unfortunately moved quite a distance away so I don't get to see her nearly enough, but when I do it's like old times. She's one of the kindest, most genuine people I know. I love the time I get to spend with her, even if it is few and far between.

Little fish

I took my daughter swimming for the first time yesterday. She’s almost 7 months old and I’ve been eager to get her in the pool for a few months, but other things always seemed to get in our way.

I wasn’t sure how she was going to react to the water. She likes her baths now, but they were no fun in the beginning. She used to scream bloody murder in her little tub. I dreaded them. I had to cover her tummy with a towel to get her to like them. Now she splashes around and has a good time, but still I wondered how she would she react to swimming? So much water at a little cooler temperature?

She loved the pool! She was like a little fish. She was splashing and kicking and loved feeling of being buoyant. Her favourite was lying on her back and floating (with my support of course). She put her head back and let the water fill her ears. She had a HUGE grin on her face. I wonder what she was thinking. She obviously thought it sounded pretty cool underwater! She loved grabbing on to the edge and kicking her feet out behind her. She loved watching all of the other kids playing too. She even eyed up a few of the water toys. We may have to snag one next time!

I can’t wait to take her swimming again. It was one of the best hours we’ve ever had!

A little friend

My daughter, dog and I had just returned from a walk and I was putting the stroller away on the front porch when I looked up to the corner of the covered deck and saw a little birdie in a nest. I was so excited! I love that she's raising her little family nestled up against my home and our little family protected from the wind, rain and whatever else Mother Nature will throw at us this spring. I think it's so special and I can't wait until her eggs hatch. When my husband got home tonight he was quite a bit less enthused. He thinks she's going to start dive-bombing us. Guess we'll wait and see. I wonder how loud they will be? The nest is right by my daughter's window...

The Stairs Are My Nemesis

So I fell down the stairs on Monday... again. I'm starting to think tumbling down staircases is "MY THING". To my amazement my body was barely sore in the days following my most recent display of utter klutziness, with the exception of a lovely purple shiner on my low back of course - darn that tile landing. It has bruised and cut me more than once. The most intriguing thing about my most recent fall is that I had the most amazing full body massage only hours earlier... so much for that sixty bucks. I guess my muscles were a little too loose. Oh, and for whatever reason I thought it was a brilliant idea to carry a candle down the stairs... thank goodness it was extinguished upon contact with the hard, hard floor. One day it is my goal to learn how to walk down stairs gracefully and with a little more poise, but for now the stairs are my nemesis.

Stairs - five. Megan - Zero.
(And those are just the ones I remember)!

For two years we have missed you,
Wishing you’d come home.

For two years we have thought of you,
Not a day goes by we don’t.

For two years we have worked for you,
Tried our best to make you proud.

For two years we have tried to emulated you,
Your courage, your beauty, your strength.

For two years we have loved you,
Still can’t believe you’re gone.

Have I mentioned?

Have I mentioned yet how much I love my daughter? I am so amazed by this little person! She's 6 months old now and blows my mind every day with how she changes and what she learns. She's a highly spirited child and quite a comedian! She's a happy baby and makes me smile hundreds of times a day. I feel so lucky in love.

I totally just had an "ah ha" moment realizing that I have the joy and privilege of molding a little human! She's not just a baby. She's a real little person who's going to grow up to be a child, a tween, a teen and an adult. Wow. And I get to be her teacher. How utterly amazing is that? I'm totally up for the challenge and I make it my mission to do my very best.

Feeling Good

There's nothing quite like the high of doing a good deed. The joy one gets from performing a completely selfless act for someone in need is hardly measurable. I'm on cloud nine today. I didn't do anything major... insignificant in the grand scheme of things really, but I know I made someone's life just a little bit easier. So, I feel awesome.

I miss writing. I miss playing with words. I am very excited to be setting up contacts and making connections to start my own work from home business as a writer. But for now... I am so in love with my daughter and I am thoroughly enjoying my year of maternity leave getting to know her. There will be plenty of time for word play later.
